HISTORY & DEVELOPMENT OF HOMOEOPATHY IN INDIA

Introduction of Homoeopathy In India- First in Calcutta:-


About 1810, a German Physician landed to India(Bengal) and Start distributing homeopathic medicines to his Indian Servants and other Poor Men.


Upto 1860- John Marrin Hoenigberger practiced in Calcutta and was chiefly known as the "Cholera Doctor"


In 1839,he came to India for second time and took up the treatment of Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab.


About 1846:- Homeopathic Hospitals were started by surgeon Samuel Brooking, a retired medical officer, at Tanjore

In Nov 1851 a Native Homeopathic Hospital and Free Dispensary was Started at Calcutta

In 1863:- Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidhyasagar placed himself under T/t of Rajen babu and was miraculously cured of his chronic illness.


In 1867:- Establishment of Banaras Homeopathic Hospital


In 1869:- A Homoeopathic Charitable Dispensary was opened at Allahabad.


In 1881:- Calcutta Homeopathic Medical College


In 1941:- First State Faculty of homeopathic medicine in west bengal


In 1944:- All India Institute of Homeopathy


In 1962:- Homeopathic Pharmacopeia Comitte under the Ministry of health with Dr. B.k. Sarkar,as a chairman.


Present Set-Up

Dept. Of Ayush:-

The Dept of Indian System of medicine and Homeopathy was established by the Govt. Of India as a seperate Department in the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in March,1995


Central Council of Homeopathy:-

Under Homeopathic Central Act,1973,the Govt Constituted the Central Council of Homeopathy in Year 1974 to maintain Central Register of Homeopathy.
